DAOM journey weekend 03/24
Hola mis amores ✨
I am so excited to share the recap of my third weekend of doctoral classes at Yo San University. Friendly reminder, we meet 1x/month. This is weekend 3 of 24!
I have been so excited to get back to classes. The past two months, after my classes, I come back to my practice ready to apply all the new things I’ve learned. I’ve seen so many improvements in my patient's progress.
✨My goal is to bring awareness to the thorough training and education we receive as Acupuncturists.✨
Ok, let’s get into it!
We had 2 classes this weekend:
⚖️ Balance method → 20 hours
🧠 Neurology for Acupuncturists pt 1 → 5 hours
🥼 clinic or class audit option → 5 hours
⚖️ the Balance Method with Dr. Sonia Tan rocked my world! (Btw, YS flew her in from Canada- what an honor to learn from her.) This technique is so beautiful, rooted in the I-Ching and Classical Chinese medicine vs Tcm. Within the first 30 minutes of the lecture, Dr. Tan describes the systems used in this system in a truly eloquent way. I teared up hearing this description. What an honor to practice this medicine. It is just so beautiful. I am constantly humbled by its beauty and connection to the universe. We learned various treatment techniques, points unique to this system, along with treatment protocols. This class had a ton of hands-on practical learning. We were lucky enough to watch Dr. Tan demonstrate some techniques to students, and witness firsthand how effective they are. If done correctly, this method can reduce pain by 50% while on the table AND with minimal points! My mind was blown. She was also gracious enough to sign a copy of her book for me. I am so excited to practice this technique in my patients moving forward.
🍽️ Saturday night Dr. Sonia Tan offered to go out to dinner with any students who wanted to join. I immediately jumped at this option. We enjoyed a lovely and intimate dinner consisting of myself, Dr. Tan. Dr. Hoffman (the CEO and dean of the DAOM), along with two other colleagues. What a treat to be able to connect with such respected members of our profession.
🧠 Neurology for acupuncturists with Dr. Orr was a dense and informative class. In this course, we did a deep dive into the brain, the nervous system, and dermatomes, and combined electro-stimulation with acupuncture to address certain areas of the body. This was a great class to help fill in the gaps on how to communicate this medicine to a Western doctor. Thank goodness for LA sunshine, because I needed to move my body during each break. This class was very informative
🙏🏽 I am so grateful to be able to learn from such great doctors and professors. Every month I find myself thinking, “Oh no wait, this one’s my favorite” 😂
🕳️ Since returning to my clinic, I have applied many of these techniques to my patients and have seen firsthand how effective they are. I cannot emphasize enough how much I am improving as a practitioner. Thus far, every weekend I have returned to my clinic, I come back with new techniques. I am absolutely loving it.
🤓 see ya next month!
